Guitar music and indie rock has crossed over successfully and bands which once would have struggled to get their music played on the UK radios are now seeing themselves achieve radio and chart success. Bands such as Arcade Fire and the Mystery Jets are now seeing their releases added to radio station playlists and their music is now reaching a larger audience. After the dance and pop of the nineties, guitar driven bands have been all the rage in the first decade of the new millennium, Snow Patrol have grown from a small indie band to a stadium-filling band with a string of successful album releases.
I predict the next decade is going to bring further success for guitar bands in the charts and on the radio, and with the growth in popularity of festivals in the UK guitars will be everywhere in 2011! Whether it is Pete Doherty and his Lag guitar or Slash and his electric Gibson guitar – rock and indie music is here to stay, so get your mates together, pick up an instrument and get jamming.
